Week 1: Fundamentals of Oil Painting
In this class we’ll introduce you to the fundamentals of oil paints and general rules. Learn the rules like a master so you can break them like an artist. After a review of materials, you’ll complete a quick oil sketch to familiarize yourself with the medium. Lecture: Understanding oil paints Review of materials Practice oil sketch Homework: Select your image either still life or landscape
Week 2: Canvas Preparation and Image Transfer
You’ll begin preparing your canvas while learning the importance of preparing your painting surface. After applying a thin oil paint wash to your prepared canvas you’ll either sketch or transfer your image onto the canvas using pencil finishing with a clear coat to seal image.
Week 3: Color mixing and Blocking Out
Proceeding a brief lecture and discussion on color theory you’ll begin preparing your pallet to block out the large shapes and values of your image. Starting with darkest colors you will begin the blocking stage.
Week 4: Wet-on-Wet Technique
After a brief lecture and discussion on painting mediums and painting wet on wet. You’ll begin to lay on the second layer developing your colors and tones. Many of these will be the final brushstrokes to your painting. Highlights and details can be added with wet paint on top of wet paint.

Students will first learn how to use the League’s new state-of-the-art microscopes. Attached cameras transfer the microscope images to a computer, from which they can be saved/printed as is, or first processed with editing software to create visually compelling works of art. We will be using Affinity Photo 2 software. No materials necessary.

Sound Therapy uses sound, music, and specialized instruments that are played in therapeutic ways. These sounds combined with crystal energy help with self-reflection and relaxation techniques to improve health and wellbeing. Starting with breathing techniques, crystals will be placed around the room and the instructor will play the instruments. Just listen to the prompts and enjoy the sounds. This class is a great way to relax, reduce anxiety, and reflect. Must be able to be quiet and be still, sit on a chair or lay down on a yoga mat, or sit on a pillow or a bolster (participants supply). Please pre-register online or by calling the Art League.
